Overview
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars, released in 2015, is the sixth game in the Mario vs Donkey Kong game series. It is available both for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. This game also supports cross-platform play, which enables players to play with each other at the same time by using different consoles.
Gameplay
There are ten words in the game, and each world has eight levels. The goal for all 80 levels (not including player-created levels) is to lead all mini-toys to the Goal Door within 5 minutes (300 seconds counting down in the upper right corner of the screen) by manipulating the environment. Players need to clear all stages to save Pauline, the beautiful girl in the Donkey Kong story.
► Mini toys cannot be controlled; they move automatically and turn around when hitting a wall.
► Manipulate the environment and help toys pave the way ahead by dragging red girders, pipes, springs, and conveyor belts.
► In Single-door levels, each mini toys need to be brought to the Goal Door immediately after one another; if not, the game is over. In Multi-door levels, different toys need to be brought to different doors.
► Toward the end of each world, your special mission is to turn a Cursed Mini Mario into his normal state by hitting it with a hammer and then lead all normal minis to the Goal Door.
► Collect coins in each level and earn more stars when you clear each stage.
► Stars can be used to redeem items in the workshop, where players can design their own levels and share them with others.
► Use the in-game tips the guide you through the tasks.
Review
The Mario Game series has always been known for its great creative and well designs. The new Series of the puzzles of Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars is a great challenging puzzle game that you will enjoy at all times. The game has flaws and the game is often being discussed on the fact that nothing interesting or new got published in this generation which I will get into detail right now in the following paragraphs.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars reminds me of where I used to control the character of Mario guiding him through the dangerous zones of the hazardous areas. The thing with the puzzle game is that you can’t directly control wherever Mario goes but you will have the ability to make them take the right and save path through pipes or girders or simply just teleporting them where you want them to be. Sometimes it’s easy to do and to arrange everything. But the game is gonna be harder if you think in the most strategical ways to either get all the coins for one challenge or just simply get the highest star rating.
You will be placing a lot of stuff like all the blocks and all the belts to make sure Mario gets to its destinations safely. The thing with the game that feels like it needs improving is that though the 40 and more challenges, everything feels pretty much the same. The problem with it is that nobody wants to sit for hours to complete the same thing over and over again like a robot. It’s like you don’t have to pay any attention or even use your brain to pass through the game. I do understand that most people wouldn’t want to use their brains because they probably need a minute away from the real world which makes them play video games. But as a strategic game of puzzles, it has to be harder and with more details and variety to capture players’ eyes. I majorly play MOBA games, like Dota 2 or League of Legends, and every game is the same with the same character and the same elements with the same people. I would probably be tired of the game as long as I try it for a while. The uncertainty and the mystery behind the game are what keep me playing for years and unfortunately I don’t think Nintendo did a good job in this sense with this game. So it’s disappointing to see the company fail the players and the fans lacking new ideologies and originalities.
Despite some flaws in the game, I always love the graphics in this game. I love when mini Mario gets from place to place. It’s so cute and it’s always fun to see him going around through blocks or pipes. There is a lot of information and material that will make lead you through the game. And the thing I love the most is to offer the players and the people the choice to build community-made stages to create and make things of our own. This is definitely the most interactive way a game can be and it makes me feel connected to the game and the developers I feel like money is well spent and I even got respect from that. I love when games in the market do things because there are great ideas from the players and there are people who can get help from it too. I still remember vividly a cancer kid who was obsessed with video games so the game company made a skin for his name to represent his spirit and his love toward video games and the world.
