Overview
New Super Mario Bros. 2, released in 2012 by Nintendo and designed for Nintendo 3DS, is the direct sequel to New Super Mario Bros.. Nintendo advertises that players can buy both the physical version in retail stores and the online version on the official website. The game setting is similar to its predecessor: Mario and/or Luigi need to save Princess Peach from Bowser and the Koopalings.
Gameplay
Although the basic operation and props are very similar to its predecessor, the focus of New Super Mario Bros. 2 is more inclined to collect gold. In order to clear each course, players don’t need to defeat all enemies, but they need to reach the final flag within the time limit. Players are encouraged to collect as many coins as possible along the way. It also has a Coin Rush mode.
► Move forward to collect coins and defeat enemies.
► Jump and hit blocks with Mario’s head or stomp on blocks to obtain hidden coins.
► You can stomp on enemies, but you don’t have to do so.
► Use POW if you see them because they can help you blow up a lot of blocks and enemies.
► Pay attention to pipes; you can enter some pipes and collect more coins in the hidden area.
► Coin Rush: in this mode, your goal is to collect a certain number of coins during three courses.
► If you claim ten coins out of a coin block, the block will turn into a Golden block that can be on the character’s head. When the character is moving, the block will produce coins.
Review
All the Mario games are similar to one another and that’s some common sense we all get in our heads as the big fans of the Mario series. Everything looks sort of familiar but it’s not always the same the whole time. New Super Mario Bros 2 is an excellent side-scrolling platforming game that will provide you with adventure throughout the 80 and more levels of the game. There are a lot of new features and designs brought up in this generation. It’s always nice to see Nintendo spend all those time on the originality and the creativity of its games.
In the game, the Villains will be Koopalings and you will get the chance to meet them at the end of each game world.s And in this generation, like in the good old time, you will still be asked to collect coins on your way to the destination. It’s the Mario basic mechanism and it’s something that’s shared in the Mario Series side-scrolling platforming games. The background settings in this game are just amazing to pay attention to. The golden ring in this game makes me feel like a complete “money digger” because the ring makes the enemies all shiny and gold which is fun. You will get more rewards and more gold while eliminating them. If you are a first-time player of the Mario Series game, you might be as well wondering how will all the coins be collected and will the game provides me with how many coins I’ve collected on my way? Don’t worry because the developers are way ahead of you and the game will record all the coins you collected on the way. This reminds me of the stats function in the Grand Theft Auto 5 game. I remember vividly how much money I earn through heists and missions to get an apartment, cars, and airplanes. And the game record every penny I earn or spend which I can always go back to.
It’s always welcoming to see the game providing you the celebration banners while you archiving certain milestones. The power-ups in this game are also fascinating to be paying attention to. The old elements from the original series appear in this Series as well, for the mushrooms. It’s like a celebration of the old-time because the mushroom power-up only appeared for a certain time, not through all the episodes of the game. Oh forgot to mention, I’ve always been a big fan of the creativity and the imagination of the Mario Series. The cute graphic styles and those unrealistic designs make me adore the game more. The background music is also worth noticing. An interesting feature that the game has that was often time brought up by the players. The developers made Koopas do a little dance while there is a trill in the background music. Small but carefully touched details like this make the game more alive and make me feel more involved in the game.
The fun of controlling Mario in the Mario series has always been my favorite and I’ve always loved taking him through wonderful designs the game has and using his abilities to his final success. There are, of course, that secret path or secret places you can access throughout the game. So please pay attention to the details of the game those minor exits might end up taking you somewhere outside of the map.
To conclude, the game has everything it needs and it’s a game worth a try no matter if you tried Mario Series before. The game is also more fun if you choose to play the coop multiplayer mode because you’ve got someone who can cherish the game with you!
